Two days ago, he asked me again if we are going to buy and pack relief goods, i told him, no. He was looking at me as if I am the meanest person, so i explained to him that this time we have no means to reach them except by giving cash donation to an institution that will buy relief goods for us.
Yesterday I learned that his school will be distributing relief goods and are accepting donations. They even specified what goods to bring and pack so it will lessen the job and allow them to distribute faster.
Many have been having second thoughts whether to give donations or not, especially after issues of corruption among Government agencies was revealed. I must say that it is but natural, i was also in the same dilemma, but not to the point that I have stopped hoping that I could find someone that can be my hand in helping.
Many are still not convinced that each and everyone has to move. I hope those reading this may finally shed help. Firstly, there are numerous way of helping, we could help them spiritually and emotionally through prayers, continuous prayers. This may be simple but praying for the souls departed and praying for strength to those who have been affected can truly work wonders. It will uplift their souls. Secondly, a bag of goods that a family need for a day or two would only cost around 400 pesos, in our everyday lives, that is just a cost of our single Jollibee or Mcdo trip or a box of donuts. So sacrifice a little, and explain to your kids how far it can go to victims of Yolanda. Thirdly, cash donations can be given even by texting, that is easy as 1-2-3. So what if the institution or agency you have entrusted took the money for their own good? Would it make you poor? And think about, what if the money you send really reach the victims? And lastly, you may give whatever you can, your time, strength, old clothes in good condition, blankets, slippers. If you want to help, you can definitely find a way.
Now is the time to act, You must feel terrified and horrible about what happened to Tacloban and other affected areas, so do not just sit and watch news. Move. Move now.
